Big News

I just got back from the high risk OB's office. The ultrasound was clear - it's a boy! He's growing very well - several days ahead on his growth compared to the last ultrasound. So chemo didn't slow him down so far.

I began losing my hair in handfuls last Friday, so Jon shaved me that night. Now that it's all said and done, we're all fine, but looking forward to loosing all my hair was hard. I have two nice looking wigs and several good hats, so I'm all set. Maybe we'll get pictures up later. But not yet. I haven't even looked at myself bald yet. Jon shaved his head too. He said he'll grow his back once I'm up to taking a picture of us together with no hair.

My mouth is healing up just in time for my next chemo round (Thursday). I've felt really well except for my mouth. Hopefully next time I can get on top of that before it gets so bad.

Our new year started off well - growing healthy kids and a whole lot shorter morning bathroom routine. (Being bald has its advantages.) Hope you all have a good new year too.

Congratulations on the new little guy! So glad to hear that he's growing fine.
Sorry to hear about the hair loss but I've heard when it grows back it's always thicker, and has more body. Imagine how much work that will be in the mornings. (smile)

What a sweet hubby to shave his head... and great way to look at it, as far as not doing your hair in the morning! Hmmm.... nice idea. :-) Congrats on the healthy boy... Keep up the great work!

Excited to hear about your little boy doing so well. You were smart to shave your head right away. I didn't and agonized through the process of it little by little. That was dumb. That was the hardest part for me, but once I started with the wig, I was just fine and it sure was a time saver getting ready for the day. You can always find positives through the tough times. What a sweet husband to shave his head as well. That will be a precious picture for years to come. Your blog is a blessing to read. Praying for you all!

Yeah!!!!!!!!!! A boy! How exciting. And I'm so glad he's doing well.

I've been praying for you specifically concerning your hair loss. I would have a tough time with it, I think. But I know you are still as beautiful as ever! And Jon is so sweet to shave his head as well.

Love and prayers!

Congratulations on the little Bixby guy! And, I'll bet it is easier to just have the hair all off at once. I'll bet you look pretty good as a "bald lady"! Love you all and pray for you daily!

I think it was smart to go ahead and shave your head. Kristina was ready to shave her head and mine to keep you company. Maybe I should not tell you, but I declined her offer. I am not sure it is safe to go to bed here tonight though. Guess maybe I should hide the clippers. I was pleased to read about your healthy little boy. You are all in my prayers. One of my friends who has recently gone through chemo told me to tell you that as soon as you are through with the chemo it will start growing back. She just had her hair done for the first time since it grew back. I have not seen her for some time, but if I understood her correctly she has curly hair now, and it was straight before. I love you, Amy. Aunt Sarah

Although I pray for you daily, I hadn't logged in for four or five days until this morning just in time to know to pray specifically for today's treatment. You are never far from my thoughts and always in my prayers. Your tremendous attitudes is a blessing and challenge to me! Also--thanks for the book reviews. It helps me know good books to seek out for myself and the grandkids. We love you all!

Hello Mrs.Bixby,
Although you don't know me, I heard about you through the Prayer Room on the rebelution.com and have been praying for you.
Congratulations on your son!
I am afraid this will seem weird too you, but my friend (who has cancer and is taking chemo), when I told her about you mouth sores, made me promise that I would tell you. :) So here goes.
She says that her doctor told her to swish her mouth with warm salt water about every hour. It prevents and heals the sores. She had a hard time with sores for awhile, but after she started swishing with the salt water, she has them under control and they do not bother her much at all.
She said as one chemo lady to another, she wanted you to know that. :)
I don't want to give you medical advices, but she wanted you to know her little trick. :)
Praying,
Sarah H.

Hi Amy, I wanted to let you know that we are praying for you. I will always remember your sweet smile way back when I first met you when you worked at Ingles. I am going to forward your blogspot to our daughter Janan in Germany. I am sure that she will remember you from BJU. She is your age. So glad that Jon's family spent Christmas with you, what fun! Love you and your lovely family. Jean Yount
